10 Days Exploring the Hidden Gems of Northern & Central Vietnam: My Unforgettable Journey

Vietnam wasn’t new to me, but this trip showed me a whole other side of the country - tranquil, soulful, and stunningly raw. I chose the “North & Center Vietnam Unexplored Route” because I wasn’t looking for the typical tourist trail. I wanted something deeper, something that would connect me with nature, culture, and real people. And that’s exactly what I found on this 10-day adventure.
From peaceful countryside boat rides to backstreet motorbike tours, this itinerary is perfect for those who love authentic experiences, scenic beauty, and a bit of quiet in a world that often moves too fast.
Day 1: A Warm Welcome in Hanoi
Touching down in Hanoi felt like stepping into organized chaos - bustling streets, the hum of scooters, and an energy that was both overwhelming and exciting. The tour started smoothly with a warm welcome and a quick transfer to the hotel in the heart of the city.
After freshening up, I stepped outside for my first bowl of Pho and a cup of Egg Coffee. The city’s rhythm was infectious, but I loved that the tour didn’t rush us into sightseeing right away. It gave me time to adjust and take in the first impressions of Vietnam’s capital.

Days 2 - 3: Into the Wild Beauty of Ninh Binh
Ninh Binh took my breath away. If you’ve ever dreamed of sailing through limestone cliffs and emerald rivers, Trang An is the place. We glided in small rowboats through silent caves and narrow waterways. It felt like time had stopped.
Hoa Lu, the ancient capital, added historical depth to the day. Its mossy temples and stone gateways told stories of dynasties long gone. But what stuck with me the most was Thien Ha Cave, a cave I’d never heard of before - quiet, mystical, and blissfully tourist-free.
We ended our Ninh Binh experience with peaceful visits to Bich Dong and Thai Vi Temple. There’s something grounding about being in these ancient, spiritual places.
Day 4: Backstreet Hanoi on Two Wheels
Just when I thought I’d seen Hanoi, the “Backstreet Tour” showed me a whole new side. We zipped through narrow alleys, wet markets, and hidden cafes on the back of vintage motorbikes with local guides.
It wasn’t just about sightseeing - it was storytelling on wheels. We shared stories over street-side Bun Cha, learned how locals live behind the busy roads, and sipped coffee brewed with generations of tradition. Hanoi suddenly felt personal.
Days 5 - 6: Cruising Halong Bay in Style
From the chaos of the city to the calm of the sea - Halong Bay was a dream. We boarded the Mon Cheri Cruise, which felt more like a boutique hotel than a boat.
The room had floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the bay, and every meal was a culinary delight. Kayaking, swimming, cooking classes, and squid fishing filled the day, but the best part? Falling asleep under a sky full of stars, floating on one of the world’s most iconic bays.
The next morning, we transferred to the airport and took a flight to Da Nang, then made our way to Hoi An. The shift in scenery was immediate - quieter, slower, more romantic.
Days 7 - 9: Hoi An Charm & Da Nang Adventure
Hoi An was everything I hoped it would be. I stayed in a charming homestay surrounded by lantern-lit streets and cozy cafes. One of the most memorable moments was visiting Tra Que village: we planted vegetables, rode basket boats, and shared stories with the farmers. The simplicity of life there was refreshing.
Day 8 took us to Ba Na Hills. Though more touristy, the cable car ride, the Golden Bridge, and the French Village were visually stunning. I didn’t expect to enjoy the theme-park aspect, but the views and architecture made it worthwhile.
Back in Hoi An, I rented a bicycle and pedaled to An Bang Beach for sunset, stopping by a tailor to get a dress made, and enjoying coconut coffee in a hidden cafe. Hoi An invites you to slow down - and I did, happily.
Day 10: Goodbye, for Now
Leaving was harder than I expected. In just 10 days, Vietnam had carved its way into my heart. The people, the flavors, the rhythm of daily life - it all felt deeply personal by the end.
I appreciated how well-paced the tour was. There was adventure and rest, discovery and reflection. If you’re considering it, check out more packages for 10 days in Vietnam.
