Most unusual in-car gadgets you never knew existed

Sure, your new sports car might go from 0-100km per hour in less than five seconds and have more horsepower than the Roman Army. But, can it safely rest your keys and change on the dashboard or send a message to the car behind with an LCD sign? Probably not.

Well, you should take a closer look at some of the most unusual in-car gadgets now available.

Car Locator: There is a look that a lot of people have on their face when they've left the supermarket, and it's not just the upset of having to pay 10c for a plastic bag. No, we're talking about that unique feeling of being convinced that someone has moved your car from where you parked it.

Rather than having to spend a week walking around the car park in search of your Fiesta, a car locator app stores its location on your smartphone, meaning you never have to lose your car outside Woolworths again.

Headrest Tablet Holder: When a lot of families begin the search to buy a car, children can often find the whole process extremely exciting. From the moment you leave the car yard, dealership or private sale, though, your kids are going to lose interest in engine size or the amount of mileage.

They will instead spend their time thinking of new ways to wrestle in the back seats or draw on the roof. Having a tablet attached to the back of your headrest will ensure you don't have to try and referee fights from the front. Or, panic about the prospect of your eight-year-old using your cream seats as a canvas for their next piece of art.

Dashboard Magnetic Mat: Some of the best gadgets are the simplest. Rather than having your phone in a complicated holder, your house keys in your pocket and your loose change in the glove compartment, you can now just place them all on a magnetic mat on your dashboard.

As simple as it sounds, this mat does a great job of ensuring you don't lose everything when you take a corner.

Flux Capacitor USB Car Charger: We might still be some way off being able to nip to the shops on a hover board but you can have a flux capacitor in your car. Sure, this one might not be able to send you Back to the Future, but it can charge your phone or tablet.

As well as being an extremely useful gadget, you're going to be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't think your car looks 135% cooler with those iconic flashing lights dancing up and down the flux capacitor.

This is while you casually charge your e-reader as you cruise along the Great Ocean Road.

LED Car Sign: Have you ever wanted to pass a message onto a fellow driver that goes beyond a simple hand gesture? Well, now you can.

Rather than the traditional thumbs up to thank the conscientious truck that pulled over to let you pass, or a stern finger point to air a frustration to those surfers heading to the beach for their aggressive driving style, you can now control an LED sign attached to your rear window that effectively lets the car behind what you think.
